Start Where You Are

We all come from different places, and we can be at different places in our lives at different times. Quite simply, we always START WHERE WE ARE. Each time we sit, we meet ourselves where we are, meet who we are and start right there. But how do we do that? We do that by cultivating awareness of not having to be anything or anyone other than who or what we are, right now in this moment.

We learn to let go of judgment and the “all or nothing” attitude that says this meditation has to be something – that it has to be the best meditation and I am going to be the best at this” attitude. And we commit to this approach each and every time we sit. We will climb mountains and settle into the valleys of our practice; we will find it both easy and more challenging at different times.

Even the most experienced will face the same sense of ease and discomfort throughout their practice. We practice bringing ourselves back to the present moment when we veer away from the present moment and this is all just part of the practice. When we acknowledge this, it helps us accept that life and us are in a constant state of motion and nothing can ever stay as it is forever. Resistance will likely hold us back, but getting right back into alignment each and every time we recognize this is really the heart of meditation practice.
